Sacred Waters - The Manoomin Harvest

This project is a quiet, respectful look at the wild rice harvest in Minnesota, where manoomin holds profound cultural, spiritual, and historical meaning for the Ojibwe people. Growing in shallow lakes and slow moving waters, manoomin is far more than a food source. It is a living connection to ancestry, identity, and a way of life shaped by a deep relationship with the land and water.

Photographed over many years, with a return each fall for the harvest, this work reflects a long-term commitment to observing the rhythms of the season and the care involved in sustaining this tradition. The images honor a practice that endures despite change and remains central to the story of the Ojibwe people and their ongoing connection to manoomin.
